Fully Funded College Fly-In Programs
Fly-in programs pay for everything — flights, hotels, meals — to bring high-achieving, low-income students to campus. They're one of the best ways to experience a school before applying, and they're completely free.
Penn Exploring Exploring Program (PEEP)
UPenn's fully funded fly-in for high-achieving, low-income high school students. Virtual program with 2 cohorts — covers an immersive multi-day experience exploring Penn's campus, academics, and community.
Dartmouth Bound
Dartmouth's fully funded fly-in program for first-generation and low-income students. Includes flights, housing, and meals for a two-day campus visit.
STARS College Network
Fully funded campus visit experiences at partner colleges for high-achieving, low-income students. Connects students with schools that will invest in their success.
Access to Amherst (A2A)
Amherst College's fully funded fly-in for first-generation and low-income prospective students. Covers all travel and lodging for a two-day immersive campus visit.
Voices of Tufts
Tufts University's fly-in program for underrepresented and low-income prospective students. Fully funded campus visit including flights, meals, and overnight housing.
QuestBridge College Prep Scholars
Access to fly-in programs at 50+ partner colleges as a QuestBridge Scholar.
Free 1:1 College Counseling Pathways
Private college counselors charge $150–$300/hour. These organizations provide the same quality of guidance — personalized, one-on-one, and completely free — to students who qualify.

Zero-Cost Testing & Academic Prep

Khan Academy Official SAT Prep
The only free, official SAT prep program — built in partnership with College Board. Personalized practice that adapts to your weak spots.
OnePrep
Free SAT/ACT prep platform built specifically for low-income students. Offers full-length practice tests, detailed analytics, and targeted drills — no paywall.
College Board SAT Fee Waivers
Eligible 11th and 12th graders can take the SAT for free. Ask your school counselor.
ACT Fee Waivers
Free ACT registration for eligible students. Available through your high school.
AP Exam Fee Reductions
Low-income students can receive reduced or waived AP exam fees through College Board.
Pro tip: Reddit communities like r/Sat and r/ACT are goldmines. Students regularly share past test questions, old vocab lists, and real exam breakdowns. A lot of vocabulary and question types get recycled — worth browsing before test day.
Elite Summer Fellowships & Programs
These competitive, fully funded programs are transformative — they build your skills, expand your network, and signal to admissions officers that you're exceptional. Apply early; deadlines are often in the fall.
Many of these programs offer need-based aid or are fully funded — even if you're unsure you qualify, apply anyway and request financial assistance. Program coordinators want to hear from students who need support.
QuestBridge College Prep Scholars

Thrive Scholars
Comprehensive college access and success program for high-achieving students of color from under-resourced communities. Includes summer academics, college counseling, and four-year support.
Prep for Prep
Rigorous academic preparation and placement at leading independent schools and colleges. One of the most selective and transformative programs available.
A Better Chance
Places high-achieving students of color in leading independent schools with full financial support. Active since 1963 with a strong alumni network.
LEDA Scholars
Intensive college access program for high-achieving, low-income students. Includes a rigorous summer institute and multi-year support through college graduation.
Telluride Association Summer Program
Fully funded six-week humanities seminar at Cornell or Michigan for exceptional rising seniors. Highly competitive and intellectually rigorous.
Seriously consider applying to QuestBridge National College Match.
National College Match is one of the most powerful tools available to high-achieving, low-income students. It's not just a scholarship — it's a full application process that highlights your context in a way a standard Common App simply can't. Admissions officers at partner schools read NCM applications differently. They're looking for students whose circumstances make their achievements remarkable.
The results speak for themselves: a significant share of NCM finalists and scholars go on to attend T20 schools — and more importantly, schools they genuinely love. If you qualify, this is the single application most worth your time.
That said, QuestBridge isn't for everyone — the match process involves binding commitments and specific eligibility criteria. Do your research during the spring of your junior year, understand exactly what you're signing up for, and apply to College Prep Scholars first if you think you qualify. It's the best way to get a feel for the program before committing to National College Match.
